U.K. Trip Wrap-Up: WELSH CHAMPS, UK CHAMPS
So I got back from the U.K. 2 weeks ago and have to say it was an incredible trip! I taught workshops all around the UK and had alot of fun training with Soul Mavericks.
Welsh Champs, was super dope. They brought out well respected elders of the game to lecture( Alien Ness- MZK, Swift Rock- BATTLE SQUAD, Gabor-ENEMY SQUAD, Aby- TBB, DJ Renegade just to name a few ). I ended up taking/assisting Venum with his workshop, then we both took Focus workshop right after. Goes to show, you gotta remain a student always, no matter how far you go. Both classes were enlightening and I learned alo from both. The next day was the actual competition, where I entered the 2vs2 with Venum (2nd place) and also participated in the infamous Last Man Standing (2nd place to Morris lol) Last Man Standing is like a ‘7 to smoke’ on steroids. Theres 12 guys and they each have 3 lives. Once u lose all of your lives you’re out! I forgot exactly what happend but I just remember Morris knocking out a few people then bowing out to save moves(smart move!). When I finally got called out I got 6 Knockouts in a row(Chaos 2x, Tawfiq, Sunni, Hulk, Manny) then it was just me and Morris with 2 lives each. We went at it for two rounds and he got me. I treated it like a 7 to smoke, so I think i should of calmed down in the beginning lol. I was definitely winded from the 2vs2 but no complaints. I was more concerned with going the distance.
UK CHAMPS was better than I expected. It was 2 days. There were 2 rooms with multiple things going on at the same time. In the IBE room they had the ‘7 to smoke’ and the footwork battles, while the Bonnie n Clyde, 1on1 and popping was in the staged room. I entered the Bonnie n Clyde with Bgirl Roxy (Soul Mavericks), we ended up winning it against Wild Willy and Mischief in the finals.
Day two continued with solos, crew and popping. I ended up teaming with Funt, Kirill, Dizzy, MN Joe, Lil g and Salo for the crew battles. Now the only reason this team was formed was to help out Funt and Kirill. The rest of their team didn’t get their visas approved. It was cool to battle on the infamous stage, I’ve been watching since i first started breaking. We lost first round, no routines, 3-2 decision. At least we got Storms vote! lol RESPECT for VAGABONDS winning the world crew title twice in a row!

IBE weekend recap
***I want to start off by saying that IBE was a great experience and even better than I anticipated. Its definitely about the CULTURE, a jam for the PEOPLE. I thought going to such a large jam everything would be super commercial and all about the hype. ***
On my route to the Netherlands I stopped off in the UK, where I entered a 1vs1 in London called EASTPAK THROW DOWN. I was a bit jet lagged and overly relaxed thanks to a a deep tissue massage i got before leaving the states(irrelevant lol). I didn’t feel as sharp or on point as I normally feel but I ended up winging it and taking the jam, 1st place.
Woke up the next morning for a 7 hour car ride to Heerlen. I arrived at the Grand Hotel where they had a check-in desk for all the bboys, or should i say ARTISTS. I checked in, got my artist badge, wrist band for the day and my room key. I arrived a little late, so i only caught a few minutes of the 7 to smoke and a bit of the generations battle. The drive to Heerlen from London tired me out so I just got cleaned up for the first after-party and chilled out.
Being my first time at IBE, I figured I’d enter the 1vs1 and footwork battles. I made top 16 in both categories out of 100+ dancers and hit the cyphers mostly.
Honestly, the competitions/battles were the least important thing at IBE if you were there! It was more about connecting and vibing with your fellow dancers. Makes me want to NOT do competitions in the NYC area for a very long time LOL.
